Degree of Unsaturation Calculator (IHD) – Organic Chemistry

🧪 Degree of Unsaturation Calculator

The Degree of Unsaturation, also known as the Index of Hydrogen Deficiency (IHD), tells us how many rings 🔵 and π (pi) bonds ⚡ are present in an organic compound.

📘 Formula Used:
IHD = (2C + 2 − H + N − X) / 2

Where:
C = Carbon atoms
H = Hydrogen atoms
N = Nitrogen atoms
X = Halogens (F, Cl, Br, I)

📌 Note: Oxygen (O) and Sulfur (S) do not affect the degree of unsaturation and are ignored in the formula.
